Coming to Peace

At the confluence of two great rivers,
the one of shame
and the other one of pain,
is a boiling, thundering turbulence,
a fight for each
to hold its place supreme
until, at last,
the stronger overcomes,
and together — one subdued,
one soft with satisfaction —
they slip into the current
riding smoothly to the ocean
where they engage anew
to struggle in the delta
of engulfing transformation,
striving to attain
their sweet acceptance,
diffusing all their salty tears
to the passion of the tides.
